Representation and Political History

A large portion of the area under the Mattannur constituency was included in the neighbouring seats like Iritty and Thalassery before the delimitation. These constituencies also had considerable political activity and left-leaning tendencies. Mattannur became a separate electoral segment as a result of the reconfiguration, and the political dynamics that it holds today reflected that of the Kannur district as a whole, which is often left-leaning. However, Kannur Parliamentary constituency, of which Mattannur is represented in the Lok Sabha by K Sudhakaran from the Indian National Congress, won the Lok Sabha Election in the year 2024.
